At Perimeter, Life on Life Discipleship is the core of equipping people to follow Jesus.
Around 2001, Perimeter started considering how to take what we had learned about making disciples and give it away to other churches.
Since then, movements of Life on Life have grown across the United States and abroad. Globally, Life on Life is now in 15 countries, and nearly 300 new churches are added each year. Domestically, we have helped churches ignite discipleship movements in 30 states.
In recent years, US pastors have embraced the model of discipleship as a way of raising mature followers of Christ and equipping their members (not pastors) for the work of ministry. Some of these churches are now training other churches in their cities, both inside and outside of their denominations. These partner churches have become geographic training hubs. The prayer is that as believers across churches in the same city become mature, equipped, and missional through discipleship, they can impact their entire city for Christ.
One of these partner churches is Revive Church in the San Francisco Bay area. Pastor Yung Kim said when he talks to other pastors, “I do everything I can to try to communicate the excitement and the joy that God has given to me and to our church through life-on-life missional discipleship. We are really committing to the Great Commission and taking that step of faith and have our leadership on board. This is what we’re going to do. This is what our church is going to be about.”
Movements of discipleship are igniting in cities throughout the US. “We really want the people of Perimeter to see Life on Life Discipleship as a ministry of our church to the global Church,” says Pastor Ryan Brown, Director of Life on Life Discipleship. “We are not interested in marketing a program. Our desire is to come alongside and equip the ‘Big C’ church to follow Jesus in raising up mature and equipped followers of Christ who can do the same in the lives of others.”
